- Platform strengthens wellness program for more than 500 employees at Mid-South's most advanced medical care center -
MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 02, 2015 - Green Circle Health (GCH) announced that West Cancer Center, the Mid-South's premier provider of cancer care for more than 34 years, implemented its online patient-to-provider communications gateway, the GCH Platform, across its entire clinic to strengthen the wellness program for its more than 500 employees.
Functioning as an added layer to existing systems, the GCH Platform merges with existing human resources files and, leveraging a patent-pending workflow that facilitates the collaborative sharing of data, maximizes the accuracy of score monitoring for West Cancer Center employees. In addition, West Cancer Center hopes the GCH Platform will improve participation in its rewards-based wellness program. By increasing the overall health and productivity of its workforce, West Cancer Center reduces the cost of insurance and lost productivity due to absenteeism, which costs employers $225.8 billion annually in the United States ($1,685 per employee) according to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
"Embracing a more collaborative relationship between medical experts and patients is the future of health care and an approach that aligns with our mission to provide the most advanced care available," said Erich Mounce, CEO of West Cancer Center. "The GCH Platform impacts our entire organization because it provides our associates with a powerful tool that creates an ongoing culture of employee wellness and will lead to a reduction in overall healthcare expenses. This is another step-in investing in the health of our physicians, employees, and patients, which are all equally critical to our overall success."
"The GCH Platform provides employees with a greater amount of control in the exchange of medical information and allows employers to create a more comprehensive and unified wellness program with greater incentives," said Dinesh Sheth, CEO, and founder of GCH. "As a cutting-edge cancer research center focused on revolutionizing healthcare standards, West Cancer Center is constantly optimizing its procedures and practices. Use of the platform emphasizes its strong commitment to individualized patient care and reinforces its role as a trusted medical technology leader within the community."
The GCH Platform is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act; it also supports every stage of Meaningful Use.

- Proven entrepreneurial innovator enters healthcare industry to bridge gap between medical services and information technology -
PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla., March 31, 2015 - Green Circle Health (GCH) today announced the availability of its GCH Platform, an online patient-to-provider communications gateway that enables the real-time exchange of patient vitals and health records among physicians, patients, family members, and insurers. An industry-first, the GCH Platform leverages a patent-pending workflow to facilitate the collaborative sharing of data and enhance health care providers' ability to proactively monitor, diagnose and treat medical conditions. GCH is focused on using innovative technology to lower costs, increase efficiency and improve the quality of healthcare.
In the traditional healthcare ecosystem, patient data is typically gathered over a period of time by healthcare providers and reviewed during scheduled appointments. As a result, treatment is only implemented after medical issues have developed or worsened between a physician or hospital visits. "The provider-driven healthcare industry is experiencing a major paradigm shift in which patient involvement is significantly increasing," said Sanjay Parikh, M.D., Medical Director for Pediatric Cardiology and Children's Health Center at St. Vincent Children's Hospital and chief medical officer of GCH. "The GCH Platform is the missing link in the industry's evolution from provider-driven to a shared endeavor between patients and providers."
The GCH Platform maintains, monitors and transmits patient health information in real time to allow healthcare providers to deliver cost-effective treatment on an as-needed basis. The platform features advanced group monitoring to improve population health and increase efficiencies for clinical trials. In addition, insurers and employers can now monitor health behavior and incentivize lifestyle changes, reducing healthcare costs.
"The current electronic health records and patient portals create too many silos of patient health records. There is no effective way for patients to share information with healthcare providers. There is no platform that makes patient-generated vital data actionable. This limits the patients' participation in their wellbeing," said Dinesh Sheth, CEO and founder of GCH. "It is our goal to bring patients and families in the center of the healthcare continuum. The GCH Platform marks a new beginning for healthcare providers, insurers, public health agencies and employers interested in improving the health of their patients, employees, and communities while lowering the cost of healthcare."
The GCH Platform is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act; it also supports every stage of Meaningful Use.

Medical Home News, July 2015
Recent legislative initiatives and the introduction of new incentives via the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are mandating new approaches to primary care. The impact of the ACA has been both immediate and sizeable, with nearly 15 million additionally insured U.S. citizens now seeking healthcare services.
This sudden influx is driving the need for more primary care providers (PCPs) as a more cost-effective alternative to specialists and emergency room visits. The reality, however, is that there are simply fewer doctors practicing primary care today because it is typically less lucrative (Medscape's most recent annual physician compensation survey reports that PCPs make 45 percent less than specialists).
Since there is a greater influx of patients into PCP practices, PCPs will be required to participate in efforts geared towards remote health monitoring, coordination of care and population health. There is a growing need for tools that can significantly improve the efficiency and productivity of PCPs, without sacrificing quality and level of healthcare.

Current wellness programs have two primary, interrelated goals: to save employers' money and to keep employees and their families healthy. These programs have matured over time and are very similar to each other.
For employers, having something in place is better than having nothing. While today's programs have made some progress in terms of participation, there is still an opportunity to increase employee engagement and improve the overall results. Wellness programs focus on early detection through testing for medical conditions, as well as behavioral changes to improve health. To change behaviors, promote healthier lifestyles and facilitate more effective management of medical conditions, we need to change the existing wellness model from one of open-ended occasional contact with a wellness coordinator to a closed-loop feedback system that hinges on constant collaborative feedback and ongoing remote monitoring between employees and their families. The resulting ROI from this new approach to wellness programs would be an order of magnitude better than current levels, which are hovering between $1 and $3 for every dollar invested (depending on who you ask).

Healthcare Dive, October 22, 2015, by Heather Caspi
Healthcare data are entering a new era with the mass adoption of EHRs, the harnessing of big data, the rise of genomics, personalized medicine, and more. To manage all that data, hospitals and other healthcare entities will increasingly be looking to new solutions involving the cloud, numerous tech experts tell Healthcare Dive, and are increasingly ready to move past the regulatory and security concerns that have previously held healthcare back.
The research appears to back those ideas up; a report by MarketsandMarkets predicts the healthcare cloud computing market will grow from $3.73 billion in 2015 to $9.48 billion by 2020.
It's not only the need for data storage driving the move, but pushes to advance interoperability, payment reform, mobile data access, and security, says Missy Krasner, Managing Director for Healthcare & Life Sciences of Box, a cloud storage and collaboration company working with institutions including the Henry Ford Health System, Beaumont Health System, and Johns Hopkins Healthcare Solutions. Krasner previously served as a founding member of Google Health and was a senior advisor to the first National Coordinator for Health IT at the ONC.
"Now because healthcare is so in need of better interoperability and better connections, they need to figure out a better way to communicate outside of their firewalls with all the people they do business with every single day, and that's really hard to do if your data are locked on-prem in servers," Krasner says.
Hospitals and payers have historically been slower to the cloud than other industries, but "in the last five years there's been a massive move," she says, noting that according to MarketsandMarkets, there has been growth from about 4% of the healthcare industry doing some kind of cloud computing to a prediction of 20% by 2017. "There's been a very large year-over-year adoption," she says.
Why now?
"It's a data explosion," Krasner says, arguing there's no way healthcare entities can
continue, from an infrastructure standpoint, to house all their data onsite with their
own servers because of the expense and the lockdown on the data. "If it's all in separate
enterprise silos such as EHRs, billing and registration systems, it's difficult to do
an analysis," she says. "Doing it in the cloud allows for one platform and one security
model, and immediate access to start doing things with the data."

HIStalk Practice, July 29, 2015, by Dinesh Sheth
Though wearable devices that track personal activity have dominated the consumer electronics market in recent years, one research report from Endeavor Partners indicates that nearly one-third of fitness trackers are abandoned within just six months. For providers, these wearables have advanced from counting steps to measuring heart rates and other physiological parameters, while also presenting one of the most cost-effective methods for ongoing monitoring of health data. Despite consumer popularity, adoption of home-based health monitoring and fitness devices and the use of such data among physicians remains low.
Although the payments for such services are typically not covered by payers, the economics of healthcare services are changing in the shift toward pay for performance. In addition, several new legislative initiatives and incentives - targeted at reducing the cost of treatment and improving outcomes - will pave a dynamic way for patient-provider interaction. The expanded availability of healthcare to millions of Americans through the Affordable Care Act increased costs, and the healthcare industry is prioritizing self-improvement to boost the overall efficiency and productivity in the evolving model. To this end, it is critical that physicians support the adoption of new devices and monitoring technologies to help patients develop healthy lifestyles and ensure long-term success.
Engagement is a Two-Way Street
The fact remains that even today's high-tech healthcare facilities do not provide a
unified view of patient data. Instead, medical records are typically spread across multiple
systems and locations, and patients are not engaged in using health records to improve
their own health. This can make a truly collaborative effort among physicians, care providers,
patients, and family members impossible.
Healthcare Innovation News, May 2015
There are two primary challenges slowing mHealth's deployment across the care continuum: the technical challenge of interoperability and the human challenge of adopting a new workflow. However, innovations that provide a layered approach with incremental changes to existing technologies have a higher potential for success in this environment
In order to improve the health of the population, mobile devices for patients and providers must be leveraged to extend the care beyond a clinical environment. These devices are "always on," providing a constant channel of communication and engagement with patients, family members, caregivers and healthcare providers, as well as a stronger method of coordinating services.
Likewise, improving outcomes within a hospital require leveraging mobile devices to reduce errors and provide a better channel for transporting and sharing data and information. These same devices can be used to improve staff productivity and monitor patients as they progress through the various stages of care. Check-in processes can be streamlined, minimizing wait times. Records and vital data can be made available on a patient's mobile device, while seamlessly flowing to providers' tablets and backend systems.
This accessibility allows providers to focus on understanding and communicating the information; they can prescribe medication with greater accuracy and efficiency or implement a plan with ongoing monitoring that provides the same level of care, whether at home or in the hospital.
Mobile technology impacts every aspect of healthcare delivery improves outcomes and lowers costs. The challenges, which are both cultural and system-wide, require bold leadership and imagination. The future is bright, but a path must be taken one step at a time. It is not going to be easy.

MedCity News, April 16, 2015, by Chris Seper
Many of the big announcements at HIMSS conferences are bow-wrapped products ready to hit the market: the IBM blockbuster is a prime example. But what's more intriguing are the many companies, big and small, rolling out brand new ideas that are taking their first swing as solutions to the big problems in healthcare.
These offerings are often more rough drafts than finished products. For these companies, HIMSS, instead of a place to close deals, becomes the launching pad for these concepts that will be adjusted, retooled, copied by others and re-launched until they become something healthcare can really use to become better, faster and cheaper.
I fell in love with a few of these concepts walking the show floor. Here are some of my favorite half-baked ideas from HIMSS15.
GCH Platform
Green Circle Health's GCH Platform is the definition of the wonderful half-baked ideas
at HIMSS: a dynamic, imagination-capturing yet flawed attempt to deliver a lasting personal
health record. Yet you can truly see people carrying a more polished GCH Platform through
their lives like their 401(k) or e-mail addresses.
The platform accepts data as is. It will, preferably, digest health records and provide analytics. It also ingests information from wearables. But it will also accept PDFs and image files like jpg and store those, too. What matters is having the information gathered together.
GCH is also elegant in the way it connects family members to view one another's records, while also providing a nice interface for practitioners and other caregivers.
It still requires patients to do a bit too much typing, though. It needs to adopt a Delectable approach to basic health data: let patients take pictures of their Walgreens blood-pressure results, for example, and - poof! - translate that information into GCH. There's also the question of how to let this snazzy record live beyond any employer, payer or provider. In concept, an employer would pay no more than $25 per year per family to provide the service. Would a family carry on that cost? Or could they get it for free?
But you know this product has merit because if you talk with the Green Circle's founder you find yourself having yes-and conversations and exploring how this could work instead of why it won't.
"We need to get out of Apple Newton and get to the iPod stage," said Dinesh Sheth, a healthcare outsider who is CEO and founder of GCH.

California Broker Magazine, February 2016, by Dinesh Sheth
Workplace wellness programs exist for two key reasons: to save employers money while keeping employees and their families healthy. Employers are always seeking to realize the return-on-investment of their wellness programs - from human resources directors up to C-level leadership. Yet it continues to be a challenge. This is because employers often implement a program without a strategy to drive engagement. Also, spending happens now while benefits come later. By shifting how companies implement their wellness programs, employers could multiply the ROI, which hovers from $1 to $3 for every dollar invested in wellness.

What has changed in healthcare within the past year? While preparing for and winding down from HIMSS16, I asked myself that very question. The industry's most important event is not only a gathering of the leading organizations, powerful minds, and emerging technologies, it is also an opportunity for us to benchmark our progress and see where we are compared to where we were. The changes that have occurred since 2015 highlight some significant transformations in the structure and focus of the industry. They also provide a glimpse into areas where we fell short and where we succeeded.

CMS has long maintained that primary care is central to the transformation it is seeking to bring to the nation's health system. Showing the strength of that conviction, in April the agency announced its largest-ever investment in advanced primary care to date: the Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+) model. The ambitious program builds on CMS' original CPC initiative, which began in 2012 and is scheduled to end later this year.

- The Company recognized for increasing consumer health data accessibility -
PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. July 25, 2016 - Green Circle Health (GCH) announced that it was recognized as a Phase 1 winner in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology's (ONC) Consumer Health Data Aggregator Challenge.
The company's GCH Platform, which is a health and wellness platform that engages families and care providers, was chosen as one of the best solutions that address a need that many consumers have today: the ability to easily and electronically access their health data from different health care providers using a variety of different health IT systems.
The Consumer Health Data Aggregator Challenge, along with the Provider User Experience Challenge, was announced in March by Dr. Karen DeSalvo, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at ONC. Both challenges were developed to foster private sector innovation to help make health information available in user-friendly formats to enable consumers and providers to easily and securely access and share electronic health information. Applicants were challenged to use the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) standard and open application programming interfaces (APIs), which are modern resources that make it easier to retrieve and share information superseding what currently exists in most Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
"It is exciting to see the level of innovation that is taking place in health IT today," said Dr. Vindell Washington, principal deputy national coordinator, announcing the Phase 1 winners. "The apps that these challenges will produce have the potential to spur real-world improvements for individuals and clinicians throughout the health system."
The Green Circle platform provides a comprehensive family health dashboard that covers the full Common Clinical Data Set and uses the FHIR to transfer patient information. It also incorporates patient-generated health data from wearables, sensors and other connected devices.
"ONC's challenge will accelerate the adoption of FHIR-based data interchange, enabling patients to get their data from the various EHR platforms that are used by their healthcare providers," said Dinesh Sheth, CEO, and founder of GCH. "Patients and families have waited too long to get useful data to generate actionable intelligence. We appreciate ONC pushing to bring down the barriers for innovations to take place and families to get healthy."

- Remote monitoring technology to improve adherence to treatment protocol -
Pensacola Beach, FL., Oct. 19, 2016 - Green Circle Health (GCH) announced that one of the nation's largest health insurers has deployed its patient-to-provider communications gateway, the GCH Platform, to monitor key vitals and daily symptoms of members using its sickle cell anemia and diabetes care management programs. These year-long trials are intended to engage 150 patients in each care program track their participation, measure outcomes and then use the lessons learned to bring benefits to a larger population.
Leveraging the GCH Platform's flexible infrastructure, which allows physician-recommended treatment protocols to be deployed for chronic conditions, case managers will remotely monitor and record members' vitals, such as blood glucose level, weight, pain levels and daily activities. Case managers can also pose daily health questions to determine if patients are meeting the requirements of their respective care plan. If a member deviates from a specific range of responses or vitals, inbuilt algorithms and work flows will alert members, their families and case managers, who will then follow-up in real-time and address issues before the condition worsens. The GCH Platform is available on any phone, PC or tablet, anywhere and engages patients by providing reminders, coaching, educational literature and rewards to stay on-track and develop healthy behavior. The Platform also coordinates care management for families, encouraging and empowering all family members to play a more active role in the use of remote monitoring and other health services.
"Care management programs are frequently used by case managers to help patients manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and sickle cell. With real-time remote monitoring technology, our platform engages the provider's members in their own health outcome, improving the overall quality of life," said Dinesh Sheth, CEO, and founder of Green Circle Health. "The GCH Platform's user-friendly technology provides members with the tools needed to improve adherence to treatment protocol and since it leverages existing devices that patients are already using, the Platform removes the need to acquire additional technology. CARMEL, Ind. (Jan. 12, 2017) - Green Circle Health, a provider of health care management and wellness platforms designed to empower families to make healthier lifestyle decisions and improve outcomes, announced plans to locate its Client Services Center here, creating up to 125 new jobs by 2022.
"Green Circle Health had its choice of many states to locate its new Client Services Center, but it chose Indiana for a reason," said Governor Eric Holcomb. "Over the last decade, Indiana has built the most affordable, growth-oriented business climate in the country. As a result, tech-enabled health firms like Green Circle Health are thriving in Indiana, taking full advantage of Hoosiers' education, skills and drive for innovation. It's only fitting that Green Circle Health joins this growing industry here in Indiana, and we welcome them."
The Pensacola, Florida-based company will invest nearly $1 million to lease and furnish office space in Indiana over the next five years. The company opened an initial 1,000-square-foot office at 9640 Commerce Drive in Carmel on Jan. 1 and plans to expand its footprint as its Indiana team grows. Clinical professionals at the company's Client Services Center will provide remote health care and coaching for GCH Platform users anywhere in the U.S., helping improve the coordination of care and treatment of chronic disease and illness. Through the tracking and analysis of users' medical records and real-time health data, the GCH Platform is designed to help people use one platform to make informed decisions to lead healthier lives.
Green Circle Health, which currently employs 25 full-time associates at locations across the country, is now hiring for specialized positions, including a chief medical officer, a data analytics consultant, a consulting physician, a nutritionist, wellness coaches, nurses and medical staff. Interested applicants may apply by sending a resume to info@greencirclehealth.com.
"It is essential in today's modern, technologically-driven society that employees have greater control over their medical information and the best available support to become responsible consumers of health services," said Dinesh Sheth, chief executive officer and founder of Green Circle Health. "To expand our business operations into Indiana is a powerful step for us in increasing customer relations and bringing jobs to local communities. Carmel and the state of Indiana have a thriving ecosystem to support information and medical technology-driven companies like Green Circle Health."
Founded in 2013, Green Circle Health launched its new patient-to-provider communications gateway in early 2016, providing a web or mobile-based infrastructure for users to manage their treatment plans, track real-time health vitals and participate in customized health and wellness challenges. Primarily serving employers, insurers, managed care organizations and health systems, the company provides these services in order to encourage employees and their families to make meaningful lifestyle changes and lead healthier lives.
Green Circle Health recently secured a client with more than 80,000 employees, and in 2016 began offering its services to Medicaid recipients at a largely managed care provider. Green Circle Health was selected as a semifinalist for the Mayo Clinic's THINK BIG Challenge and won the Consumer Health Data Aggregator Challenge held by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in 2016.
"The city of Carmel is pleased to welcome Green Circle Health to a growing family of medical technology companies that have chosen to locate a part of their operations here in Carmel," said Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard. "Our low taxes, great public schools and many amenities such as outstanding parks, trails and cultural districts have helped create an attractive city in which to expand a successful company. We look forward to watching you grow and playing a key role in your future success."
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Simple Healthcare LLC (dba Green Circle Health) up to $1,000,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $131,250 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These incentives are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Carmel supports the project.
Green Circle Health is the latest health care tech firm to announce its plans to expand in Indiana. In August, biopharmaceuticals and medical technologies consulting firm DK Pierce & Associates broke ground on the company's new headquarters in Zionsville, with plans to create 23 new high-wage jobs. TriMedx, a provider of health care technology management services, announced in November that it was expanding in Indianapolis, adding 108 new jobs.

- GCH also recognized as "Ultimate Connector" for the ability to integrate with the greatest number of unique systems using FHIR -
PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. Jan. 18, 2017 - The Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) announced Green Circle Health (GCH) as the second place winner in Phase 2 of its Consumer Health Data Aggregator Challenge. In addition, GCH was recognized as the "Ultimate Connector" for its ability to connect to the greatest number of unique health IT systems and received $50,000 in total prize money.
Announced last year, the Consumer Health Data Aggregator Challenge was developed to foster private sector innovation to make health information available in user-friendly formats and enable consumers and providers to easily and securely access and share electronic health information. In Phase 1, GCH's online patient-to-provider communications gateway, the GCH Platform, was recognized as one of the best solutions that allow consumers to easily and electronically access their health data from different health care providers using a variety of health IT systems.
Within the past year, GCH has made tremendous progress in achieving its goal of helping consumers improve health and wellbeing, using its next-generation apps that utilize the real-time exchange of patient vitals and health records among physicians, patients, family members and, insurers, including:
"We are thrilled to recognize new tools that make it easier for individuals and clinicians to access health information and put it to use," said Dr. Vindell Washington, national coordinator for health information technology (IT). "These apps reflect the incredible progress that is possible as a result of the digital health infrastructure that the public and private sector have built together over the last eight years."
"As the healthcare industry continues to leverage its investment in digital infrastructure, healthcare IT providers like GCH have the unique opportunity to develop innovative methods of delivering consumer data to both patients and providers," said Dinesh Sheth, CEO and founder of GCH. "Patients and their families have waited too long for health information to be available in an easily understood and actionable format. 2017 has so far been defined by a great amount of uncertainty for employers and employees alike. Since the election of the new presidential administration, experts across all industries offered their predictions on what the new administration's first focus would be. Now, within only three months of taking office, Congress has already attempted and failed to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), with a new law titled the American Health Care Act (AHCA). For the health care industry, this is an effort which could have had far-reaching effects that are now left to departmental regulatory reform and priorities, but what will effect would it have had for employers and their employees nationwide?

Business owners across all industries are facing uncertainty surrounding the status of current laws and regulations. A Republican majority in Congress and the new presidential administration have created a climate of de-regulation. Luckily, or perhaps unluckily, depending on your view, U.S. employers of all sizes are currently facing a potentially major regulatory change with U.S. Republicans attempting to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with their own bill: the American Health Care Act (AHCA).

Employees of all ages have the desire to stay healthy and avoid developing chronic conditions and expensive medical treatments. Yet, even though no one wants to get sick, most employees lack the knowledge and capability of managing their health and the health of their family. This inability has resulted in poor long-term health issues for employees and increased costs for employers as they try to improve health and productivity through ineffective and costly wellness programs, while also paying for expensive medical conditions that could have been avoided.

Employers have long been pontificating about the impact that Millennials have on the workforce and what changes are necessary to accommodate them, but the time for discussion has passed. It's time for action. According to the PEW Research Center, during the last two years, Millennials have overtaken both Generation X and Baby Boomers as the largest demographic in America's workforce. This means that employers must be creating the healthy and productive work environment that’s been talked about for so long. From an HR perspective, this requires taking a close look at what benefits a company is providing and how those benefits fit into employee's lives.

CVS Health Corp.'s deal to acquire Aetna Inc. for about $67.5 billion in cash and stock has the health care industry abuzz, nearly overshadowing the other weekend's major news, the passage of the Senate's tax bill. Granted it's going to take experts just a little bit longer to weigh the effects of that 500-page document on health care, but for now, those in the industry have plenty to say about the CVS/Aetna deal.
For the most part, everyone agrees that the move has the potential to disrupt health care--whether it delivers, however, depends on a number of factors. What could change, and what would it mean for consumers? Let's hear from three industry leaders:
"This acquisition is unlike others we've seen in health-care, which have been more horizontal than vertical. We've seen other vertical acquisitions, such as hospitals becoming insurers, but the concern we've had is that there's not a good track record of these health care mergers improving customer experience or lowering the cost of health care.
"What's interesting about this one is that it does have the potential to create better access and more convenience to consumers through CVS' retail pharmacy network. However, CVS will need to expand the number of its clinics, and not just the number of locations, but maybe also the breadth of services in order to do that. If they can deliver that, it could result in lower costs for these types of services.
"One of the challenges with retail clinics today is that they pretty much sit outside the health-care ecosystem. Without networks, is there a way to integrate the health-care delivery in retail pharmacies into the broader delivery system, and share the data and integrate better with primary care offices? Maybe retail can take on routine care, freeing up primary care physicians to deal with more complex issues.
"The question that employers will have is whether this new entity can execute, given that health-care is local, with a very fragmented delivery system. The track record from the mergers within health-care haven't been great, so skepticism will be around execution - but the opportunity is there.
"The other question is whether this new entity can disrupt an overly complex pharmacy supply chain, or will it otherwise continue to entrench an already entrenched business model? There are possibilities around the management of both pharmacy and medical collectively. When managed separately, that sometimes creates the wrong incentives, but integrating pharmacy and medical management can impact the total costs of care."
"We're all working off a fairly limited amount of information at this point, but to us, this is a transaction that has the potential to be transformative as it relates to how health care is accessed and paid for - and not just pharmaceuticals.
"There is lots of coverage around pharmaceuticals, given this is CVS, but we look at this as one of many things that is happening in health care that seek to transform the way we seek care from traditional players in this ecosystem - potentially creating space for new entrants to come in.
"While this is a very big transaction between two very big companies, this is really going to be one where innovation has to have as big as a seat at the table as integration when the two companies come together. In a typical merger-of-equals by competitors in the same space, it's really about integration - taking out costs. But since this transaction is by adjacent players in different parts of the health ecosystem, it's really important for the leaders to think about how to build a combined company that's driven by innovation and transformation in the marketplace.
"It's not just about nuts and bolts about how to integrate the two - innovation will be the most impactful part of the success story."
"For Aetna, this deal makes perfect sense, to realize their investment value for their stockholders. It's a great transaction for Aetna on the business side. For CVS, it remains to be seen. They are branching out into unchartered territory. They already own a PBM, Caremark, but to buy an insurance company - it's a very interesting expansion of their own business.
"It's intriguing how they are going to monetize [the acquisition] when they are projecting only $750 million in post-merger synergies. That's not a huge consideration for the price they are paying. I think the success of the merger is going to depend on how much additional business will be derived from the insurance business.
"Now from the consumers' point of view, if an individual is already an Aetna customer, then there's not much change, as Aetna is already using CVS Caremark as their PBM. CVS has other clients that buy from the PBM, and for those clients, the question will be what synergies Aetna brings to the table.
"If you are a large corporate client and are using CVS Caremark, but your insurance is provided by Anthem or UnitedHealthcare, do you now go to Aetna? Then you will be helping grow that side of the business for CVS."

Across all industries, modern enterprise technology has served as a powerful tool to revolutionize how businesses operate on a day-to-day basis, and where human resources was once the department stuck in the "Stone Age" - utilizing entirely paper-based processes - new technologies have propelled HR teams to leadership roles where they represent a company's cultural and operational backbone, further driving overall profitability.
One key area where the industry is being impacted most by technology is a company's employee benefits management program. Traditionally, these programs have served as a tool for employers to keep up with market competitors and offer benefits that attract and retain talented employees at the lowest possible cost through negotiating deals with various benefits vendors. Now, thanks to developments in enterprise technologies, employers can better manage their programs internally and also offer improved benefits options for employees and their families.

For years, employers have strived to engage their employees in their personal wellness and drive them meaningful behavior change that leads to healthier lives.
And while every employee likely wants to be healthy and avoid expensive medical treatments and chronic diseases, most lack the knowledge, motivation or tools to be successful. As such, employers run the risk and cost burden of operating with a less healthy, less productive workforce. Combined with absenteeism and presenteeism, rising medical costs continue eating away at many companies' profit margins.

To be successful, an employer must implement wellness programs by first developing a concrete strategy to drive and track employee engagement.
Benefits Pro, August 13, 2018, by Dinesh Sheth
Employer wellness programs exist for two key reasons: 1) to save on a company’s health care costs; and 2) to help keep employees healthier and more productive. Despite their existence since the early 1970s, the truth is that wellness programs, in general, have been ineffective at demonstrating a clear return-on-investment (ROI) for employers. At the same time however, scientific research indicates employers should see a return of $1.50 to $2.00 from each dollar spent on wellness programs. The disconnect between studies and reality stems from the fact that there is no simple way for an organization to realize the same results. Instead, to be successful, an employer must implement wellness programs by first developing a concrete strategy to drive and track employee engagement.

At a fundamental level, most employers offer similar benefits and, when put side by side, they can often add up to as many as 67 individual services or programs for employees to consider. Most employees however, cannot easily compare these benefits, much less understand how to get the most value from them.

MEMPHIS, TENN. (PRWEB) JANUARY 31, 2020
Green Circle Life, provider of SmartFHR, an innovative, all-in-one communication and engagement web and app-based service that aggregates employee-facing human resources (HR), wellness, and healthcare services, reported significant achievements for 2019 including another year of doubling and diversifying the client base, exponential growth in users, increased customer satisfaction and successfully rebranding services.
SmartFHR™ is being accessed collectively by more than 500,000 users nationwide. Green Circle Life expanded its user base from employees of retail and healthcare companies to include financial institutions, government entities, universities, hospitality companies and more. In a recently conducted client survey, 92 percent of users reported the service as easy to use and an excellent resource for benefits and HR services.
"Our team has worked hard to make sure the Smart FHR platform is best in its class, which is showcased by the great feedback we've received from our clients and their users," said Dinesh Sheth, CEO and founder of Green Circle Life. Our clients, including their employees and families, have evolving HR and benefits needs, and this past year we took measures to implement and deliver services in record time to meet the growing demand."
Earlier this year, the company shifted from providing siloed offerings for health condition management, HR solutions and wellness programs to providing a comprehensive and integrated solution that addresses a user's daily needs. This has allowed clients to select the SmartFHR™ platform for their specific workforce needs, as services can be integrated or offered individually. The platform also focuses on communication and engagement with the company culture and offers clients solutions to encourage a productive and healthy workforce.
Sheth added, "Our clients are now using the platform to conduct any and all internal company business, engage with benefits consistently, make lifestyle changes with their families and more. The platform is nimble and easy to access and use; our clients are seeing tremendous growth in benefits utilization and employee engagement with the resources provided in the app. We will continue to strengthen our partnerships and build environments that help our clients be healthy and successful."
New features were also added to the SmartFHR™ app and web-platform this year including a personalized dashboard, the ability to create appointments with health providers, enhanced analysis and guidance based on wellness assessments and chronic care management programs. By lowering barriers of accessibility and offering all-inclusive resources, companies are providing a clear direction to their employees on where to go for answers.
